What is the single most important thing an unpublished writer should do to get published?
I am self-published, which is a very different route. If you are eager to get your work and your story out there I recommend this route. You are completely in charge of your story, marketing, and managing all aspects of selling your books. It is a lot of work, but I enjoy being in control and making the decisions.
What is the single most important thing a newly published writer should do?
Do your research first! Make sure you understand the process to be able to hit publish. It’s important to have your ‘ducks in a row’ or else you get bogged down and it takes even longer.
Where is the best place to go for writing advice?
I’ve found through networking on FB. Strange I know, but truly I’ve found a wealth of information on FB from fellow writers. It’s very helpful and great to meet people who are doing the same thing as you.
What is the best writing advice you have ever gotten?
Find time out of every day to write, even if it’s only a small amount. It helps keep the story flowing. Even if they words don’t come out just the way you intend them keep going and get the scene out, then later you can edit.
What would you do differently if you could?
Write faster! Ha!
Can you imagine having a different career? What would it be?
I’m not sure I totally look at this as a career yet, more of a hobby, a love, a passion, a way to express my creative side. I really enjoy doing this and don’t put any pressures on myself to pound out books as fast as I can. I do it for the love of it and because I enjoy it.
Do you have a favorite debut author? If so, who?
Wow, that’s a tough one. There are so many amazing authors out there who never get noticed. I read in all categories, in terms of romance… Michelle Lynn’s Love Me Back is an amazing debut. Collide by Gail McHugh sucked me in. Consequences by Aleatha Romig is one of my all time favorites, but it’s dark, twisted and mysterious. I loved Divergent by Veronica Roth, and her personal success is encouraging.
Book 2 in the Perfect series: Kate (Katherine) Monroe is finally coming to heads with the decisions she’s made in the past to keep herself distracted at any cost. Learning to move on and forward with the conflicts in her life is harder than she expects though. With Kyle continuing to attempt reconciliation and Kate’s mom back at home, avoiding and running are no longer an option.
All along Kate’s mind and heart are consumed with Reed, but she fights to push her feelings and desires to the side. Despite the obvious pull and connection she has with Reed she finds it difficult to let him in… and trust in herself. However, Reed’s perseverance and patience never wavers and eventually he uses the one thing that had always brought them together… tennis.
As Reed and Kate begin to embark on a new relationship they face the past and the present head on. Along the way, new challenges and emotions arise testing the direction of their future together.
Can Kate forgive herself and trust Reed in order to latch onto the one emotion she needs most… love?
